Lissa Rivera: http://lissarivera.com/
The use of the history of fashion in Rivera's practice has been greatly impactful to me. Her depictions of her partner utilize a rich visual vocabulary that takes from tradition and queers it with their collaborative thought process. This is fascinating to me and it is something i try to channel with my work.
Laurence Philomène: https://www.laurencephilomene.com/
Gender is a complex aspect of identity, and I find a lot of inspiration and beauty within the practice of Philomène and how they digest it. The way they utilize self portraiture to talk about their journey as a trans, non-binary person is something I find a lot of relation to with my own journey as a queer person. I also adore their sanguine use of color and sometimes humorous visual elements.
